Exercise 7 — Retrieve on the Flat

Applies to: RH – F, FL, T, L, MT; Level A and B

Retrieve Article

  • Utility articles, max shoe size
  • Dimensions (recommended tolerances): 10–25 cm × 5–10 cm × 3–6 cm
  • Weight: 200–500 g
  • Materials: wood, leather, light metal, textile, plastic, or combination
  • NOT allowed: jute rolls, toys, designed/fabricated articles (e.g., wrapped gloves), glass, aerosol cans, pressurised articles, plastic containers
  • Articles differing from specification may be used with TJ permission

Level A vs. B

  • Level A: DH chooses article from organiser-provided selection.
  • Level B: TJ selects one article at start of event — same article for all participants.

Permitted AC/VC

  • 1 AC or VC for the retrieve
  • 1 AC or VC to release the article
  • 1 AC or VC for final GS

Execution

  1. DH gets article shortly before exercise at designated place, returns it there after.
  2. From GS (off-leash), DH throws article ~10 steps away.
  3. AC to retrieve is given only when the article comes to rest.
  4. D runs quickly to article, picks up immediately, returns directly at same pace, sits in front of DH holding the article.
  5. DH takes article with 1 AC or VC; D stays close.
  6. After ~3 sec, DH ends with GS.

Evaluation — Faults

  • Running slowly or not directly
  • Mistakes when picking up
  • Slow or indirect return
  • Dropping the article
  • Playing with or mouthing the article
  • Throwing the article too short or too far
  • Any help by the DH
