Exercise 4 — Distance Control

Applies to: RH – F, FL, T, L, MT, W; Level A and B
Points: 15 p

Sequences

  • Level A: Sit → Recall → Down → Recall
  • Level B: Sit → Recall → Down → Stand → Recall

Permitted AC/VC

| Level A | Level B | |—|—| | 1 AC for “heel” | 1 AC and/or VC for “stand” | | 1 AC or VC for “sit” | 1 AC or VS for “recall” | | 1 AC or VC for “recall” | 1 AC or VC for GS | | 1 AC or VC for “down” | 1 AC or VC for “down” | | 1 AC or VC for GS | 1 AC or VC for “sit” |

Execution

Phase 1: From GS, DH walks off-leash D straight. After 10–15 steps, D sits at 1 AC/VC — DH does NOT break stride or turn.

After ~40 steps, DH stops and turns to face D.

Phase 2: At TJ instruction, DH recalls D with 1 AC/VC. D runs toward DH happily and fast. At the midpoint of the distance, DH gives 1 AC/VC for “down” — D must drop immediately. D stays in down.

Level B addition: At TJ instruction, D stands at 1 AC/VC. D stays standing.

Phase 3: At TJ instruction, DH calls D with 1 AC/VC. D comes quickly, sits close and straight in front. After ~3 sec, DH orders GS.

The down (and stand in B) happens while the dog is in motion toward DH, not after it arrives.

Rule: Distance Violation

  • If the D surpasses the designated distance for the 1st recall / 2nd position by more than 10 steps → partial exercise maximum Satisfactory.

Partial Point Breakdown

| Part | F, FL, T, MT | W | |—|—|—| | Part 1: Initial GS, development, sit & remain | 6 p | 4 p | | Part 2: Approach and assume & remain “down” | 5 p | 3 p | | Part 3 (A): Approach, front sit, GS | 4 p | 3 p | | Part 3 (B): Stand, approach, front sit, GS | 4 p | 3 p |
